The Orpheum was packed with an excitingly diverse crowd
of musicians and music lovers. And this reflected what the
Awards show was all about. All types of music from the local
Boston scene was played and honored on this Thursday, April
13, in the year 2000.
Hard rockers Godsmack "dominated" the 13th Annual Kahlua
Boston Music Awards by winning the Act of the Year Award,
among three others. Female Rock and Blues powerhouse, Susan
Tedeschi, walked away with these awards, Album of the Year
(Indie Label) "Just Won't Burn" (Tone Cool Records); Single
of the Year, "Rock Me Right"; Outstanding Female Vocalist
(Indie Label); and Outstanding Blues Act. Legendary
Disco-Queen, Donna Summer won a Hall of Fame Award as did
Gang Starr, "hip hop pioneers". Ipswich's Melissa Ferrick
won Outstanding Female Singer/Songwriter. And a new award,
the Ertegun Impact Award, was presented by Peter Wolf, of J.
Geils Band fame, to the man the award was named for, Mr.
Ahmet Ertegun, Atlantic Records founder and
co-chairman/co-CEO.
Put simply, the music was fine as was all else that
night.
